As the strike goes on...
Let me tell you what'll happen. Our favorite TV series would be gone! Well, tell me, how bad is it a start for 2008? The WGAE (Writer's Guild of America, East) and WGAW (Writer's Guild of America, West) apparently decided to go on strike and left us TV addicts craving for more but getting none. Nada, zilch, zero, a big goose egg!
Wait, you've not heard about the strike? No biggie. Ready a pen and notebook and I'll give you a rundown on it.
So, first things first, the strike broke out on November 5, 2007. Every three years, the WGA supposedly has to negotiate a new basic contract with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), by which it's members are employed. However, in the 2007 negotiations, an annoying word called "impasse" decided to butt in. Issues involved include DVD residuals, new media(compensation for delivery channels) and jurisdiction in reality and animation. As such, the much hated strike came into being.
Till date, the strike has lasted a total of 9 weeks and 3 days. If you think that's long, think again cause the previous strike in 1988 lasted for 21 weeks and 6 days.
The strike has even received responses from the celebrities, although barred from supporting another union's strike. Many celebs have expressed support for the strike while some even joined in the march. As for the general public, surveys have shown that majority are sided with the writers. As for me, I'll just stay neutral since I'm not too sure of the contents myself.
Imagine, no CSIs, no House M.D., no Without A Trace, no Ghost Whisperer, no Cold Case, no Ugly Betty, no Gossip Girl, no Supernatural...no nothing! Everything's being affected by the strike. Gosh, am I glad I said I wanna send 2008 packing ASAP.
Alright, now I've to go mourn over the loss of my TV shows. Thanks for dropping by once again. See ya soon!
