Gil the 'Bug Man'

'Because the dead can't speak for themselves'. That is the reason why my all-time favourite character, Dr. Gilbert Grissom, gave everything within his power to deliver justice upon the countless lawbreakers that has commited various treacherous acts of monstrosity.

Having been on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for an impressive 9 years, Gil Grissom has left behind an unforgettable impression in every viewer's memories as the idiosyncratic yet highly intelligent supervisor of the night shift Las Vegas CSI unit and as the father figure of the team. Due to his infatuation with bugs as an entomologist, he was also largely referred to as the 'bug man' to those working around him.

Starting out as a person with a misanthropic-like character who would rather bury himself in his work consistently than mingle or socialize, Grissom has evolved, over the span of the show, into a sentimental guy who cherishes and cares for his team above everything else; though still retaining his workaholic part of his character. In his line of job, everyday was a horror to live through having to examine gruesome crime scenes and risking his life to nab the bad guys. In short, Grissom has been through almost every worst scenario we can think of. From losing a CSI trainee in the first episode to facing the most elusive criminal in the form of 'The Miniature Killer' and dealing with his otosclerosis to dealing with the loss and departure of those he held dearest, we can say that his perserverance and will is to be highly admired. Sadly though, there comes a point in life where one is exhausted after having to go through such disheartening events every now and then. This, ultimately, was the reason why Grissom decided to leave CSI.

Grissom and Catherine, the 'husband/wife' of the team, exchange looks of encouragement for one last time...

Though I have dreaded the coming of this day ever since I became fond of the character, it is impossible for us to deny the fact that every character leaves a show at some point, whether it's to our liking or not. Fortunately, Grissom's exit from the show was not on an ambulance or on the autopsy table. Instead, it was beautifully planned out, accompanied by a mellow and breathtaking piano piece, which more or less reduces the lingering pain of farewell. Well, we owe the director and producers our thanks for this.

My favorite on-screen couple, GSR, is back in action!

While it is sad that we'll be losing the most experienced, proficient and intelligent member of the team, the other members will finally be able to shine after having been living in the shadow of their respected mentor, Gil the 'Bug Man.' Despite all that, I would be lying if I said I'm not going to miss the bugs, his office, quirkiness, enthusiasm, unique sense of humor and most of all, poetic quotes. You will be seriously missed, Mr. 'Bug Man.'
