Those are the widely expressed characteristics possessed by Melinda Gordon, more famously known as the 'Ghost Whisperer'. Having innumerable encounters with the dead who are 'earthbound' due to unfinished business, one would think that she would be able to take deaths with stride. However, that proved to be wrong when we witnessed the loss of her husband during a misfire. Shattered, traumatized and unable to come to terms with the tragedy, Melinda struggled to face the facts, the very fabric of truth, that would change her life. Probably forever.
Despite a major life makeover, Melinda was still able to remain logical due to her affections for the one true love she has ever known. Jim. A man who fully believes in her ability without the slightest hint of doubt and is able to accept her with open arms for who she really is, as a bridge between the living and dead. Her undying love was the beacon of light that guided her through the darkest period of her time, knowing that he'll always be at her side.
Then, it was as though her job of crossing spirits into the 'light' has paid off and she was granted a second chance at it all. However, like all things free, they aren't always perfect. Jim isn't the person she once knew anymore. In fact, it's an entirely different person. Different looks, different personality and most of all, no memories of his life with Melinda. Even though the spirit of Jim has integrated into a different 'human vessel' named Sam, she persisted in trying to bring him back by reigniting those dormant memories, believing that he did it all so that they could always be together, out of sheer faith. That very faith kept her going even when those around her refused to believe.
Finally, it was down to the revelation of her abilities to the highly skeptical Sam. Knowing that it wouldn't be easy for him to accept, Melinda was caught in a dilemma, unsure if she should disclose her ability or to keep it a secret. However, when she was forced to reveal it, Sam took it with a closed mind. Melinda, however, perservered due to the fact that she would be betraying Jim if she gave up on Sam. After several heartbreaking moments and misunderstanding, Jim's consciousness finally resurfaced in Sam and they were reunited once again.
The reason why I'm attracted to the series is that by highlighting the loss suffered by people and the things they go through after, we ourselves get to learn some life lessons. All in all, I highly admire Melinda for being able to cope with her job as a 'whisperer' while having to push herself through the arduous journey, solely relying on something which is incorporeal. If one were able to make use of these three characteristics in everyday life, I'm guessing everyone would be doing so much better.
